The Best Tifos of the New Season
Hello, and welcome to American Tifo, a newsletter for, and about, North American soccer supporters. Thank you for being here. If you haven’t already, subscribe! If you’re a member of a supporters group, please consider sharing this with the rest of your SG and encouraging them to subscribe as well.
The 2024 MLS, NWSL and USL Championship seasons are fully underway, and in the first few weeks, we’ve seen some amazing tifos!
Austin FC supporters unveiled a King of the Hill-themed tifo before the club’s Copa Tejas match against rivals FC Dallas on March 30th. Austin have won the past two iterations of the inter-Texas tournament between Austin, FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo, and kept their dominance going with a 2-1 win.
The Rose City Riveters brought the heat for the Portland Thorns’ home opener on March 24th with a Dune-inspired tifo.
Union Omaha supporters group, Omaha Parliament, took a jab at Major League Soccer at their midweek U.S. Open Cup game on April 3rd, portraying Omaha defender Dion Acoff shushing the MLS (with a dollar sign) logo. Check out this video on how the tifo came to life.

Two clubs joined NWSL this season, and supporters celebrated with some impressive displays. Utah Royals supporter group, The Court, unfurled a beauty, while Bay FC SG, Bridge Brigade, heralded in the club’s new era in style.
Vancouver welcomed Cascadia rivals, Portland on March 30th, and reminded them who the current Kings of Cascadia are, after winning last season’s Cascadia Cup, their first since 2016. They capped off the day with a dramatic 3-2 win over the Timbers to set themselves up nicely to potentially defend their crown.

Opening weekend of MLS (all the way back in February!) also saw some incredible tifos, including LAFC’s tribute to LA thrash band, Suicidal Tendencies, Columbus’ massive MLS Cup defense tifo, and St. Louis FC’s impressive card stunt.
